We Hope Sails Are Coming To Hough Mill

Visitors always ask when we will be adding sails to Hough mill.  We are really excited to let you know that we hope to add framework sails later this summer subject to appropriate planning approvals.  These sails will lead us one step closer to having a fully restored mill.  We will release more details as the project progresses and watch this space for news on a fabulous village fete opening ceremony!

Framework sails will give Hough Mill the appearance of being a windmill.  While a major step forward they will not enable wheat to be ground into flour.  Additional material will need to be added to the sails to enable the wind to power the mill.  The stones will also need work to enable them to produce flour.

It has taken the management committee several months of hard work to be able to submit the planning permission application.  There has been extensive consultation with millwrights, millers, the council and others to develop the application, as well as sorting out the finance.  This behind the scenes work is important and the management committee is always keen to hear from people who feel that they can positively contribute to the administration and strategic development of the Trust.
